New Delhi, Apr 2: The Waqf (Amendment) Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday, aiming to enhance the governance, transparency, and management of Waqf properties across the country.

The proposed legislation seeks to streamline administrative processes, ensure better accountability, and empower Waqf boards with broader authority to manage assets effectively. Officials stated that the amendments are intended to eliminate procedural ambiguities and provide clear guidelines for the protection and utilization of Waqf properties.

Union Minister for Minority Affairs, while introducing the bill, highlighted the need for reform in the management of Waqf properties to prevent misuse and ensure their proper utilization for the welfare of the community.

The bill includes provisions to strengthen oversight mechanisms and ensure that Waqf assets are used for charitable, religious, and community welfare purposes. Additionally, it proposes measures to enhance the financial transparency of Waqf boards through improved auditing and reporting standards.

Opposition members raised concerns regarding certain provisions of the bill, seeking clarity on aspects related to community involvement and the safeguarding of rights associated with Waqf properties.

The bill has now been referred to the parliamentary committee for further examination and recommendations. Stakeholders and community leaders are expected to provide their inputs during the deliberations.
