Bengaluru, Apr 3: A 19-year-old migrant woman from Bihar was kidnapped and raped near a railway station in Bengaluru while searching for food with her brother in the early hours of Thursday. The shocking incident occurred within the Mahadevapura police station limits.

Locals, alerted by the victim’s screams, rushed to the scene and managed to capture one of the perpetrators. The suspect was beaten by the crowd before being handed over to the police. Based on his confession, another accused was later arrested. One of the suspects has been identified as Ashif.

According to police reports, the victim and her family, originally from Banka district in Bihar, had been working in Kerala’s Kattappan village on cardamom farms. With the season ending, they decided to return home. On April 1, they sought travel guidance at Ernakulam railway station, where they were advised to go to Bengaluru to board a train to Bihar.

The family contacted the victim’s brother, who resides in Bengaluru, and he instructed them to get off at K.R. Puram railway station. They arrived at the station around 1:13 a.m. and remained there while the victim and her brother ventured out to find food around 1:20 a.m.

While walking towards Mahadevapura, the duo was attacked by two men around 1:30 a.m. One of the assailants restrained the victim’s brother, while the other dragged her to an isolated location and raped her. Despite attempts to silence her, she managed to scream for help.

Hearing her cries, locals rushed to the scene, forcing the attackers to flee. One suspect was caught by the crowd, beaten, and later handed over to the police. Authorities registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched an investigation.

The incident has sparked outrage, raising concerns about migrant safety in urban areas. Police have assured swift action against the perpetrators.
