Mangaluru, Apr 3: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued a stern warning against unauthorized flex boards being installed not only along the roadsides but also on dividers and flyovers in the coastal districts of Karnataka. The authority has stated that strict action will be taken against violators.

While the Mangaluru City Corporation’s enforcement measures and fines have somewhat controlled the flex board menace within the city, the issue persists along national highways.

Speaking media, Abdul Javed Azmi, project director of the NHAI, confirmed that complaints have been lodged with the police regarding flex boards placed on highways, flyovers, and junctions. He added that even amid ongoing highway-related works, authorities are reviewing the situation, and public spaces along highways cannot be used for advertisements.

As per IRC:46-1972 guidelines, flex boards and banners are prohibited within 100 meters of road junctions, highways passing through urban areas, bridges, or crossings, no flex boards are allowed between essential highway signboards, installation of any flex board obstructing pedestrian movement is strictly prohibited, and placing flex boards, cut-outs, or banners on road dividers and edges is discouraged, as they may distract drivers.

NHAI has urged individuals and organizations to comply with these regulations to ensure road safety.
