Kozhikode: Playwright Jayaprakash Kuloor Bags ‘Pushpashree Award’

Kozhikode, Jan 18: Fifty-nine-year-old Jayaprakash Kuloor, an advocate and tax practitioner and Malayalam playwright for 40 years bagged the ‘Pushpashree Award’ instituted by the Pushpashree Trust in the name of late Tikkodiyan who was a Malayalam playwright and worked as a programme executive in All India Radio (AIR) for several years.

The Award will be presented to Kuloor by state electricity minister Aryaadan Mohammed during a function scheduled to be held at Hotel Alakapuri on Sunday January 28.

The Award comprises cash of Rs 15,000, a citation letter, and a memento. His play ‘Velichenna’ enacted by Kumar Vallikkunnu has seen over 1,000 performances. Kuloor’s book ‘18 One Act Plays’ won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 2009. Last year, his story was made into the Kannada movie ‘Aidondli Aidu’. He has written and directed one Konkani drama ‘Shirlo’ in 2005, which was staged in Kozhikode. The plays ‘Jodi’ and ‘Ottakam’ are the most popular of his works.

Jayaprakash belongs to the GSB community with deep roots in undivided Dakshina Kannada district and in Kerala.
