Mangaluru/Udupi, Apr 6: Coastal Karnataka witnessed a burst of summer rain on Saturday evening, as thunderstorms coupled with strong winds swept across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
Mangaluru city saw evening showers after a cloudy start to the day, while Puttur, Balnadu, Bettampady, Badagannur, Kadaba, Alankaru, Uppinangady, Hirebandadi, Beltangady, Bandaru, Karikkal, Sullia, Punacha, Bayaru, Bantwal and nearby areas reported good rainfall.

Yellow alert issued amid intense heat
Despite morning cloud cover, humid conditions prevailed throughout the day in Mangaluru. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 34.1°C and a minimum of 25°C.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a 'Yellow Alert' for April 6 and 7, predicting more thunderstorms and rain across the coast.
Showers bring respite to Panja and Subrahmanya
In Sullia taluk, areas including Panja, Nintikallu, Kalmadka, Karikkal, Kukke Subrahmanya, Kulkunda, Kaikamba, and Bilinele were treated to heavy showers and gusty winds on Saturday afternoon. Overcast skies and occasional drizzles marked the day in Sullia town.
Auto rickshaw crushed by giant tree in Madanthyar
In a rain-related incident at Gerukatte Khanda near Nellikkatte, a massive tree toppled over an auto rickshaw due to strong winds. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, though the vehicle sustained significant damage.
