Kundapur, Apr 6: In a tragic incident at Badagudde in Kalavara, an elderly farmer lost his life after dry grass caught fire while preparing compost in his paddy field.

The deceased has been identified as Mahalinga Devadiga (80). The incident occurred when he was cleaning the field and burning dry vegetation to prepare fertilizer.

Since there was no proper road access to the field, the fire brigade could not reach the spot in time. Trapped by the rapidly spreading flames, Mahalinga Devadiga was unable to escape and was charred to death.

The presence of dry grass in the area reportedly fueled the fire further.

A case has been registered at the Kundapur Rural Police Station.
