Kundapur, Apr 6: In a heartbreaking incident, a beloved Yakshagana artiste lost his life in a road accident near the Arate bridge on the night of Saturday, April 5.
The deceased has been identified as Narayana Poojary (40), the chief Maddale (percussion) artiste of the Hattiyangadi troupe, known for his dedication and contribution to the traditional art form.

The Hattiyangadi troupe was scheduled to perform at Thudallya in Shirur. However, the programme had to be cancelled due to heavy rain. Following the cancellation, Narayana Poojary was returning home on his motorcycle.
At the Arate bridge, one-way traffic had been temporarily enforced owing to repair works. In the ensuing confusion, Narayana Poojary, unaware of the changed traffic pattern, reportedly collided with a mound of mud placed as a barricade. He lost control of his vehicle and tragically succumbed to his injuries.
This marks the fourth fatal accident reported at this bridge, raising concerns over safety measures in the area.
The Kundapur traffic police have registered a case and are investigating further.
