Mangaluru, Apr 7: The city women's police have arrested a man from Hejamadi for allegedly sexually harassing a woman and defrauding her of Rs 1 lac by convincing her that she was under the influence of black magic and needed special treatment.
The arrested has been identified as G Abdul Kareem alias Kuloor Ustad, a resident of Guruvayanakere.

According to police, Abdul Kareem repeatedly called the woman under the pretext of treating her for black magic. The woman, along with her sister, visited him several times. In her complaint, the victim stated that he used to recite verses from the Quran during these visits.
On February 10, 2022, when the victim’s sister was unavailable, she had gone alone to his house in Hejamadi. It was during this time that the accused allegedly recited the Quran to her, sexually harassed her under the guise of treatment, and took Rs 55,000 from her, according to the complaint.
The victim further alleged that the accused told her that the treatment required large sums of money, and over multiple visits, managed to extort about Rs 1 lakh from her.
It is also reported that Abdul Kareem has similarly deceived and harassed several others under the false claim of offering black magic remedies. He allegedly manipulated his victims into believing that they were cursed and needed to perform certain rituals, exploiting their fear and superstition for his gain.
