Arne Slot blames costly errors for Liverpool's shock defeat to Fulham

London, Apr 7: Liverpool head coach Arne Slot attributed his team’s surprise 3-2 defeat to Fulham to first-half mistakes, brushing aside suggestions of complacency despite maintaining an 11-point lead in the Premier League title race.

The Reds were left stunned at Craven Cottage on Sunday evening. Despite taking the lead early on, they trailed 3-1 by halftime and failed to recover, marking only their second league defeat of the season and ending an impressive 26-match unbeaten run.

“This has nothing to do with complacency,” Slot clarified during the post-match press conference. “We are not winning every game by huge margins. Anyone watching us knows it takes a lot of effort and quality to win games. Today, we made errors we usually avoid — and making three in one game is costly.”

Slot pointed out an uncharacteristic mistake by defender Ibrahima Konate as part of the team’s shaky start. “The second half was much better, but conceding three goals makes it difficult to stage a comeback at this level,” he added.

Despite the setback, Liverpool remains comfortably atop the table, with Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against Everton ensuring the gap stayed at 11 points.

Slot acknowledged the team's resilience in the second half but rued the lack of time to level the score. “We were pushing, we had our chances, but you need more time to recover from such a deficit,” he said.

The defeat adds to a troubling recent run for Liverpool, who have now lost three of their last four matches across all competitions, including a crucial EFL Cup final loss to Newcastle United.

Liverpool now have a week to regroup ahead of their home clash with West Ham United next Sunday, while title challengers Arsenal face two fixtures in that time.
