Hyderabad, Apr 7: In a horrifying incident that has sent shockwaves across the city, a pregnant woman was brutally assaulted by her husband outside a hospital in Hyderabad’s Gachibowli area. The incident, which occurred on the night of April 1, came to light only on Monday after CCTV footage surfaced.
The accused, identified as Mohammed Basrat, allegedly attacked his wife, Shabana Parveen, by smashing a stone on her head multiple times following a heated argument. The disturbing act took place moments after she was discharged from a private hospital where she had been admitted for vomiting. Shabana, who is two months pregnant, had been recovering and was sent home when the attack occurred.

According to police sources, the couple had a love marriage in October 2024 and was residing in Adityanagar, Hafeezpet. Basrat, originally from Vikarabad and working as an interior designer, had moved to Hyderabad where he met Shabana, a native of Kolkata.
The altercation reportedly began outside the hospital and soon turned violent. Shocking CCTV footage shows Basrat kicking Shabana before picking up a heavy boulder and striking her on the head several times. Believing she had died, Basrat fled the scene on his motorcycle.
Fortunately, passersby who witnessed the aftermath alerted the police, and Shabana was rushed to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS). Doctors say she is in a coma with critical head injuries.
The Gachibowli Police have registered a case and arrested Basrat, who was produced in court and remanded to judicial custody. A police official confirmed that further investigation is underway.
The incident has sparked outrage among citizens and women’s rights groups, who are calling for stringent punishment against the accused and stronger measures to prevent domestic violence.
Authorities have assured that justice will be served and that the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness.
