Bhopal, Apr 7: A 22-year-old man has been taken into custody in Bhopal for allegedly misrepresenting his religious identity and marrying a young Hindu woman under false pretenses, authorities confirmed on Monday.
The arrest followed a formal complaint lodged at Katara Hills police station by the 21-year-old woman and her parents. According to the complaint, the man introduced himself as "Rahul Sharma" and developed a relationship with the woman under this false identity.
The woman stated that their relationship eventually became physical, and the two got married. However, she later discovered that the man’s real name is Suhail Khan and that he is Muslim — a fact he had deliberately hidden throughout their relationship.

Police launched an investigation immediately after receiving the complaint. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Mahaveer Singh Mujalde confirmed that Suhail Khan, a resident of Vidisha (approximately 60 kilometers from Bhopal), was arrested and produced before a court. He has since been placed in judicial custody.
ADCP Mujalde further stated that Khan has been charged with concealing his identity and misleading the woman. The police are conducting a broader inquiry into the matter, including a forensic examination of Khan’s mobile phone, which has been seized for further analysis.
“This case is highly sensitive,” ADCP Mujalde emphasized. “We are examining all possible angles, including whether the accused acted alone or was influenced by others. We are also checking if he has any links to other similar cases. The forensic report is currently awaited.”
The investigation remains ongoing as police work to uncover the full extent of the alleged deception.
