Rahul Gandhi slams BJP-RSS over caste census, champions social justice in Patna speech

Patna, Apr 7: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing critique of the BJP and RSS during his address at the Samvidhan Bachao Sammelan in Patna, vowing that the Congress party will prioritize social justice through policies rooted in real-world data, starting with a nationwide caste-based census.

Speaking at the Sri Krishna Memorial Hall, Gandhi targeted Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat for dismissing the need for such a census. “A caste census is like an X-ray of society,” Gandhi declared. “It reveals the real structure of our population and is essential for designing inclusive policies.”

He pointed to Telangana as a successful example, highlighting how the Congress-led caste survey there has already begun to reshape the political narrative. “What we achieved in Telangana is just the beginning. The same transformation can unfold across India,” he said.

Gandhi also drew attention to internal reforms within the Bihar Congress, citing a significant shift in leadership representation. “Earlier, two-thirds of our district presidents in Bihar were from upper castes. Under Kharge ji’s leadership, that reality has changed. Now, two-thirds belong to OBCs, EBCs, Dalits, and Mahadalit communities. We are aligning leadership with population,” he said.

Calling on Congress workers to reach out to underrepresented communities, he invoked Bihar’s legacy of leading social movements. “Bihar has always been a cradle of change. This time, too, the wave of transformation will start from here,” he added.

In a broader ideological attack, Gandhi accused the RSS of pushing a narrative that contradicts India’s constitutional values. “Our Constitution is not a relic of 1947 — it embodies the values of our ancient civilization. The ideology of Savarkar doesn’t belong here. He never had the courage to confront the truth,” he said.

He praised Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi for turning social suffering into legal rights, saying, “Ambedkar took the pain of the oppressed and turned it into a foundation for justice. That struggle for truth continues to this day.”

Gandhi also commented on the stifled political atmosphere, saying fear and silence have gripped the nation. “These days, speaking the truth is an act of courage. Everyone knows what’s happening, but too many are scared to speak up.”

On the economic front, he criticized the disconnect between the stock market and common citizens. “The U.S. President sneezes and our stock market plunges. But how many of you actually invest in it? Less than 1% of Indians. It’s a playground for the wealthy, not a tool for the people,” he said.
Rahul Gandhi’s visit comes as the Congress ramps up its campaign in Bihar ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections, focusing on organizational restructuring and championing the cause of social equity.

He concluded his day-long visit by returning to Delhi in the evening.
