Mangaluru: Fuddar Prathisttan honors 405 Catholic achievers at 'Puraskar-2025' felicitation ceremony

Mangaluru, Apr 8: Fuddar Prathisttan (R) organized 'Fuddar Prathisttan Puraskar-2025' for the toppers and achievers of Mangaluru and Udupi diocese on Sunday, April 6 at Milagres Jubilee Hall Mangaluru.

As many as 405 catholic students excelled in SSLC, PUC, graduates, post graduation, various competitive examinations and in sports at International, national and state level were felicitated during the programme.

Fr Maxim L Noronha, vicar general of Mangaluru diocese inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. Nigel Pereira, president of Fuddar Prathisttan presided over the programme. Prof John D'Silva, diocesan parish council secretary, Mangaluru diocese was the chief guest. Guest of honor, Santhosh Cornelio, president of Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh, Secretary Vivid D’Souza, joint secretary Alwyn Quadros, directors Jerald D'Costa, Anil Lobo and Harry Rego were present.

Fr Maxim L Noronha in his inaugural address congratulated all the awardees and their parents on receiving the recognition. He spoke about the importance of education in present times and motivated the students to raise their voice against injustice to the community and in the society.

Prof John D'Silva, chief guest of the programme, congratulated the Fuddar Prathistan Trust for organizing a beautiful programme to felicitate the achievers and for motivating them. In his keynote address he emphasized on the need of government officials from the Catholic community and encouraged the students to try answering various competitive examinations. He urged the students to stay in the country and serve and stay connected with their families.

Santhosh Cornelio in his speech said that the education should help one develop value based society and not to lead them away from the spirituality and family life.

On behalf of the felicitated students Sohan Alva, Alston D’Souza, Reshel Fernandes and Dr Anet D’Souza shared their success story and expressed their gratitude to the organizers of the felicitation programme.

As Fuddar Prathisttan (R) completes 20 years of its existence, few programmes were planned for the year. Inaugural of these programmes was conducted in a unique way by pouring the incense into the charcoal. Nigel Pereira in his presidential address gave a glimpse of programmes which will aim at social, economic and cultural wellbeing of the Canara Konkani Catholics, as per the objectives of Fuddar Prathisttan. He applauded the students and their parents on receiving the honor. This time 405 students were being felicitated at a time. He expressed his words of gratitude to all the office bearers, trustees and the generous donors who contributed financially for this event, without which, he added,  it was impossible to be successful.

Joint secretary Alwyn Quadros welcomed the gathering. Vivid D’Souza, the secretary rendered the vote of thanks. The donors who supported generously for the success of the event were honored with a memento. The support and suggestions of vice president Fr Walter D’Mello and Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh president Alwyn D’Souza, who could not make it for the programme, were greatly acknowledged. Jyothi D’Souza and Jane Mathias compered the event. The programme concluded with a sumptuous lunch.
