Bengaluru, Apr 12: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a fresh spell of rainfall across Karnataka from April 12 to 18, with most districts expected to receive moderate rainfall. Notably, Karnataka has already recorded above-average rainfall in the first week of April.

According to the IMD, Karnataka received significantly more rainfall than usual during the last week. While the average expected rainfall was 4.7 mm, the state recorded 19.1 mm. In the coastal region, instead of the normal 4.7 mm, 18.1 mm of rainfall was received. The north interior region, which usually gets 3.8 mm, recorded 13.9 mm, and the south interior region received 23.8 mm against an average of 5.5 mm.

Out of Karnataka’s districts, 25 recorded excess rainfall, three districts received normal rainfall, one district had deficient rainfall, and another received no rain at all.

The IMD has issued a forecast of moderate rainfall from April 12 to 18 in Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Ballari, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chamarajanagar, Chitradurga, Chikkaballapur, Chikkamagaluru, Davanagere, Hassan, Kodagu, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Shivamogga, Tumakuru, and Vijayanagara.

Scattered rainfall is also expected in several districts of north interior Karnataka.

On April 12, rainfall is expected in Bagalkote, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Koppal, and Vijayapura. On April 13, Belagavi and Raichur are likely to receive rain. From April 14 to 16, rainfall is expected across all districts of Karnataka.

On Friday, rain was reported in parts of coastal Karnataka and north interior Karnataka, and at a few places in south interior Karnataka. Mangaluru in Dakshina Kannada recorded 4 cm of rainfall. In Yadgir district, places like Kakkeri, Shorapur, Saidapur, and Gabbur each received 3 cm of rainfall. Similarly, Jalahalli in Raichur and locations in Bidar district also received 3 cm of rainfall.

The forecast indicates that the state will continue to experience wet weather in the coming days, bringing some relief amid the summer season.
