Jaipur, Apr 12: In a notable shift ahead of key political realignments in Rajasthan, former MLA and influential Gujjar leader Joginder Singh Awana has officially joined the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), delivering a setback to the Congress in the state.
Awana’s induction into RLD took place in Delhi in the presence of Union Minister and RLD National President Jayant Chaudhary. His decision marks a fresh political beginning and is seen as a strategic move that could alter voter dynamics in eastern Rajasthan.
Awana, who commands strong grassroots support in Bharatpur and surrounding regions, first gained prominence during the 2018 Rajasthan Assembly elections. Contesting from the Nadbai constituency on a BSP ticket, he defeated BJP's Krishnendra Kaur (Deepa), a royal family member, securing over 50,000 votes. He later joined Congress and remained active until his recent switch.

The move is expected to boost RLD’s base in the state, particularly among the Gujjar community—an influential voter group in eastern Rajasthan. His entry into the party comes amid a growing rapport with RLD leadership, signaled by his meeting with Jayant Chaudhary at the latter’s residence.
With Awana’s political experience and regional appeal, the RLD is set to gain momentum in the lead-up to future elections. Political analysts believe his defection could spark further reshuffling and impact electoral strategies in several key constituencies.
