Mangaluru/Udupi, Apr 13: Christians across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts marked Palm Sunday on April 13 with solemnity and devotion, ushering in the beginning of Holy Week.
The day commemorates the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, where He was welcomed by crowds waving palm leaves and chanting "Hosanna." Following tradition, parishioners gathered at various churches holding blessed palm fronds and participated in processions through the streets, re-enacting the historic event.

In Mangaluru, Udupi, and several coastal parishes, the faithful marched together with prayers and hymns, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. Special masses were held across churches to celebrate the occasion.
Palm Sunday marks the start of Holy Week, the most sacred time in the Christian calendar, leading to the observances of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and culminating in the celebration of Easter.
Large numbers of devotees turned out for the services, as churches across the region resounded with the chant of "Hosanna," reaffirming their faith and devotion.
