Tehran, Apr 13: In a chilling act of violence, eight Pakistani nationals were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Iran’s restive Sistan-Baluchestan province on Saturday, April 12. The victims, all hailing from Bahawalpur in Pakistan’s southern Punjab, were reportedly working at a car repair workshop in Meharistan district when the attack took place.

According to reports, armed assailants stormed the workshop overnight, tied up the workers, and opened fire, killing them on the spot. Iranian officials confirmed the incident and have identified five of the victims as Dilshad, his son Muhammad Naeem, Jaffar, Danish and Nasir. The identities of the remaining three are yet to be released.

The bodies have been shifted to a local hospital as investigations are underway. The motive behind the killings remains unclear, though the region has seen frequent unrest and violence over the years.

The incident has triggered concern on both sides of the border, with demands for a thorough probe into the targeted killings.
