Mangalore: Urwa Marigudi Murder - Five from Dandupalya Gang Sentenced to Death

Mangalore, Jan 19: Five persons belonging to the dreaded Dandupalya gang from Bangalore, who were charged with the murder of two persons near Urwa Marigudi in the city in 1997, were awarded death sentence by the 34th special sessions court in Bangalore. The court also imposed fine of Rs 10,000 each on the five accused.

Those who have been sentenced are Dandupalya Krishna, Dodda Hanuma, Venkatesh alias Chandra, Munikrishna, and Nalla Timma. All of them are presently lodged in Parappana Agrahara Jail in Bangalore.

They had been charged with slitting the throats of Louiza D’Mello (80), and her aide, Ranjeet Veigas (19) on the night of October 12, 1997, and taking away valuables worth five lac rupees including gold ornaments and cash.

N Chalapati, the then inspector of Vijayanagar police station in Bangalore, had detected the criminals involved with the double murders, and recovered the stolen ornaments from their possession. The documents were then transferred to Urwa police station here. The then deputy superintendent of police in Mangalore, T C M Sharif, had led the investigation, and filed the charge sheet.

Public prosecutor, Gopinath, had appeared in the case on behalf of the prosecution. The members of Dandupalya gang have already been awarded death sentences in 15 various cases of murders and robberies, and the present sentence is the 16th.

    Late. Mr. Ranjeet was my best buddy. In fact i'm their neighbor. Everyday when i used to come back from school in the afternoon i used to go to their place to play cricket. That week he got his SSLC results and he had passed. He was very happy. Let his soul rest in peace.

    There's been a huge history of serial killers and other motherland traitors, who are still alive... I hope all are caught as soon as possible and be punished asap.. As far as this gang they must be hanged with no further trails... Its jus waste of courts time and burden for public to pay taxes for their shelter and etc..

    I THINK THAT WE ALL AS CITIZENS NEED TO START BOYCOTTING PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT THE DANDUPALYA GANG. WE NEED TO SEE THAT NOBODY FIGHTS FOR THEM.ALL THEIR SUPPORTERS SHOULD BE CRUSHED BY A SOCIAL BOYCOTT AND INSTEAD FULL HEARTED SUPPORT SHOULD BE GIVEN TO THE SINCERE POLICEMEN WHO ARREST THEM AND SEE THAT THEY ARE SENT TO THE GALLOWS.WE NEED TO AWARD POLICE OFFICERS LIKE CHALAPATHY ON A NATIONAL LEVEL AND SEE THAT HE AND MEN LIKE HIM GET MORE SUPPORT. THE FEAR IN OUR HEARTS MAKE US WEAK AND WE SHRINK AWAY FROM STANDING UP AGAINST THE CRIMINALS LIKE DANDUPALYA GANG. WE NEED TO FIRST REMOVE THE FEAR. WE NEED TO TRAIN OUR MINDS TO COUNTER SUCH ATTACKS. WE NEED TO TEACH OUR FAMILIES HOW TO KEEP SAFE FROM THEM AND TO DO WHAT IF THEY DO APPROACH.WE READ THE PAPERS AND SEE TV AND THATS IT. WE ALL NEED TO WORK AHEAD FOR OURSELVES. A MIGHTY INDIAN POPULATION CAN CRUSH A HANDFUL OF THESE NOTORIOUS CRIMINALS.

    All the five murderers should be hanged to death as early as possible better still their throat should be slit as they slit the throats of Louisa D'mellow and Ranjeet Veigas and buried right away. What heartless criminals were these.

    In fiction, in many a case, when real culprits are not found, the case is conveniently solved by making the noted criminals the scapegoats. If one recollects what had been published in the newspaapers fifteen years back, it was a meticulously planned murder where all traces were wiped out. According to news, Dandupalya decoits were only murdering who ever came in their way during decoity and leave the place immediately without bothering to look back. Anyway this sentence doesn't make any difference to them - persons to be hanged 15 times will not feel anything on the sixteenth.

    Dandupalya gang is the worst gang which our Police dept has ever seen in the criminal field.These criminals used to target the remote houses and attack at night.They used to gang rape the victim first irrespective of their age,sex and slit their throat before looting everything.One of their gang members was caught while selling gold.When he was given special treatment in police lock up ,he informed that they raped and killed 52 people in Karnataka.Police Inspector who was investigating for theft was shocked to hear this.

    These days committing crime is become easier becos mostly the Govt,Court and Public themselves ignore and think it is a daily affair. Express serious verdicts should be given to people commiting crimes like murder,rape,child sacrifices, using children in begging racket,honour killings,dowry killing, infanticide, kidnapping so that people will fear before commiting crimes and thereby crimes will be reduced.

    They deserve the punishment!! But, I do not understand what forces these people to resort to killing innocent people for money. It should be having with our social structure, no equanimity, polarization of wealth and fame!!! We have to remember before giving a judgement, still 25crores of Indians go to sleep without food!!!!!!!!!!!

    The gang has already been awarded death sentence in other case. Timely non ution of death sentence is a deterence in the adminstration of justice. Once death sentenced is awarded, then there should be fast track for appeal, high courts to supreme courts and clemency application and the matter needs to be decided within next 12 months from the date of first sentence. Once the matter is decided, there should be immediate ution of the judgement so that crime is deterred and criminals dont get time to live long. Faulty judicial system is one of the causes for increase in crime rates in India. Rapists need to be sentenced to jail too. Rape is heineous crime against humanity. Murder for robbery, revenge etc too to be treated as capital crime and needs to be given death sentence. However unintentional killings needs to be looked at different angle as it is not intended to kill but an accident...

    Dreaded Criminals highly deserved their death penalty verdict given in this case too. But who will hang them? Do we have Hangman “Jallad”? Will they apply for pardon with President of India? So again in Indian Justice System, Justice is always denied to the person who suffered or lost their life because of these Criminals. I think here we need Justice System like in China i.e. the moment your application is rejected by Supreme Court Criminals will be transferred to “Death Van” to be taken to “Death Chamber” so that punishment will be served within couple of hours
