Mangaluru: Tragic drowning at NITK beach claims one life, search on for missing teen

Mangaluru, Apr 15: A day at the beach turned tragic for a visiting family from Mumbai when two members drowned at NITK beach this afternoon.

The victims, identified as 18-year-old Dhyan Banjan and a 15-year-old minor Hanish Kulal, were part of a 10-member group visiting from Mumbai. According to preliminary reports, both teenagers got into difficulty while swimming in the sea.

A quick-acting lifeguard Pradeep Acharya managed to pull Dhyan from the water and rushed him to Padmavathi Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The Hanish Kulal remains missing despite ongoing search efforts involving local police personnel, fire and emergency services, and professional lifeguard teams.

The family, originally from Surinje but currently residing in Mumbai, was visiting the popular beach destination when the tragedy struck.

The deceased, Dhyan Banjan, son of Vivekananda Banjan, was a resident of Mumbai.
