Udupi, Apr 16: The foot overbridge at Indrali railway station in Udupi lacks a proper roof covering, leaving passengers exposed to the scorching sun and heavy rains. Members of the Udupi District Citizens Committee — Nityananda Olakadu, K Balagangadhara Rao, and Taranath Mesta Shiruru — have urged the district administration, elected representatives, and railway authorities to address the issue and take immediate steps to provide a roof over the bridge.
Thousands of commuters use the Indrali station’s foot overbridge daily. Without a roof, passengers are forced to walk under the harsh sun or get drenched during the rainy season. At times, when there is a change in the train platform due to operational requirements, passengers must switch platforms based on the station controller’s instructions. This often results in added inconvenience, as people are required to cross the uncovered bridge in extreme weather conditions.

Mothers carrying small children and elderly passengers with mobility issues are particularly affected, facing distressing situations while navigating the bridge. Citizens have emphasized the urgent need for a roof to be installed over the foot overbridge to ensure the safety and comfort of all commuters.
