Udupi, Apr 16: Maruti Suzuki’s much-awaited electric SUV, the e-VITARA, was officially unveiled on Wednesday, April 16, at the Abharan NEXA showroom in Kadiyali, Udupi.

The launch ceremony was marked by the formal unveiling of the vehicle by Laxminarayan P Nayak, officer at the Udupi RTO. The event began with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony to mark an auspicious start.

In his address, Nayak termed the launch as a “historic milestone” in Maruti Suzuki’s four-decade journey, as the company ventures into the electric vehicle segment. “I urge the public to adopt electric vehicles in place of conventional petrol and diesel cars. With the rise in the number of vehicles, pollution is also increasing. Choosing EVs will not only reduce pollution but also save valuable foreign exchange spent on fuel imports,” he said.

Anand Amin, general manager of Abharan Motors, highlighted the company’s journey. “Abharan Motors started operations on January 14, 2001, and this NEXA showroom was inaugurated on January 14, 2017. After serving customers with petrol, diesel, LPG, and CNG vehicles, we are proud to now introduce Maruti Suzuki’s first electric vehicle — the e-VITARA,” he said.

The unveiling concluded with a celebratory cake-cutting by dignitaries. The event was compered by Sandeep Bhaktha.

Also present were Satvik Kamath (CEO), Akash Kamath, Nagaraj Kamath (general manager, service), Sathish (sales manager), staff and other invitees.
