Panaji, Apr 17: In a landmark diplomatic engagement, Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, met with Dr. José Cesário, Secretary of State for the Portuguese Communities, and Mr. João Manuel Mendes Ribeiro de Almeida, Ambassador of Portugal to India, at Mahalaxmi, Altinho, Panaji. Tourism and IT Minister Rohan Khaunte also participated in the important discussions.
The meeting, focused on enhancing the cultural ties between Goa and Portugal, comes in light of the rich historical and cultural influence Portugal has had on the state. The dialogue is expected to have revolved around strengthening cooperation in tourism, with particular emphasis on Ayurveda and wellness tourism. Goa, in its bid to become a leading wellness tourism hub, is looking to attract international visitors with a focus on health and wellness.
Additionally, there were discussions about economic cooperation, including opportunities for trade, investments, and further boosting Goa's tourism sector. Dr. Sawant’s government has already made strides in promoting Goa as a center for Ayurveda and wellness, with plans to establish specialized health and wellness centers. Leveraging the Ayush visa scheme is expected to further augment this initiative.
The meeting reflects Goa's commitment to fostering closer ties with Portugal, aligning both cultural and economic interests to explore mutually beneficial opportunities, particularly in tourism, culture, and trade.
