‘Will not tolerate if sanctity of 'Janivara' is threatened’: MLA Yashpal Suvarna

Udupi, Apr 22: “If the sanctity of the ‘Janivara’ is threatened, we will definitely not tolerate it”, said MLA Yashpal Suvarna addressing the media on April 22.

Expressing strong opposition to the comparison between the Janivara and the Hijab, Suvarna accused the Siddaramaiah-led state government of indulging in appeasement politics, saying, “The Siddaramaiah government has completed two years, but there is no concern for development. The government is indulging in appeasement of the Muslim community. The state government is moving forward with the intention of wooing minorities.

"The community that wears the 'Janivara' (sacred thread) is respected across the nation. The government is following a policy of dividing the Hindu community. Siddaramaiah, who is at the verge of retirement, should seek blessings from Brahmins for deliverance from his misfortunes,” Yashpal Suvarna said.

Yashpal Suvarna further criticised the social media posts made by certain activists who are allegedly linking the Hijab and Janivara.

“Comparing the janivara to the hijab is a malicious act. The government must take appropriate action against those responsible. Activists involved in the hijab issue are making tweets about it. The High Court has already delivered its verdict on the hijab matter. The judgment clearly states that hijab is not allowed where there is a prescribed uniform. Uniforms have been implemented to eliminate discrimination. It is not right to compare the 'janivara with the hijab. If someone speaks again about the 'janivara' inappropriately, a strong response will be necessary.”
