YCS Angelore celebrates silver jubilee

Mangaluru, Apr 22: Young Catholic Students Movement is an international movement for the youth studying in PUC that lays a strong foundation for their future. Armed with the motto ‘Building New Society,’ the YCS members prepare themselves to take on life with ‘See, Judge, Act and Evaluate’ methodology that is used in their cell meetings to find solutions to the issues pertaining to the youth.

The Angelore Unit of YCS, instituted in 2000 celebrated its silver jubilee on April 20. Fr Roshan D’Cunha, diocesan director of YCS, was the chief guest of the programme. James D’Souza, vicar forane, St Peter City deanery and Fr Vijay Monteiro, director, St Peter City deanery were the guests of honour. Fr Fredrick Monteiro, parish priest presided over the programme.

Socius Fr Stany Fernandes, Deacon Jeevan Shailesh Lobo, founder animator Juliana Mascarenhas, parish council president Paul Rodrigues, secretary Lolina D’Souza, present animators Renita Menezes and Roshan Patrao, unit president Leon D'Souza, secretary Sheldon Menezes, national convenor Anson Nazareth, diocese president Deyon Saldanha, state convenor Briston Rodrigues, Varado president Daryl Monteiro were present on the dias.

President Leon D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Ralph Menezes presented the report of 25 years of activities of YCS Angelore. Animator Roshan Patrao delivered the vote of thanks.

Fr Roshan D’Cunha, Fr James D’Souza and Fr Fredrick Monteiro addressed the gathering and congratulated YCS members for the silver jubilee celebrations.

As part of the celebrations the past and present directors, assistant directors, animators and presidents of the unit, artists were felicitated. Jeswita Quadras, who is the first Mangalorean to be the national president of YCS in 50 years was also felicitated.

Shaun D’Sa and Melora Monteiro compered the formal programme. The audience were captivated by enthralling Flashmob performance by YCS members which was the main attraction of the programme.

The 16th edition of Maxim Nite was organised as part of the celebrations. Renowned singers, including those from Angelore, enthralled the audience with melodious songs. The songs were accompanied by breathtaking dance performance by members of Urban Groove. Memori, the household name in comedy performances, entertained the audience with their hilarious performances. The musical Nite was successfully compered by renowned MC Sheldon Crasta.

The programme concluded with baila dance by the young and old alike.
