Srinivas Jokatte, Dr Eshwara Alevur to receive Kasargod Journalists’ Welfare Awards on May 3

Kasargod, Apr 22: The Kasargod District Kannada Journalists’ Welfare Association (KDKJWA) has announced its annual endowment awards for 2025. Senior Mumbai-based journalist Srinivas Jokatte and Akshaya monthly editor Dr Eshwara Alevur have been selected for the honours.

Association president Ravi Naikapu informed that the awards have been instituted in memory of Brahmaikya Edneer Keshavananda Bharati Swamiji and late K V R Thagore.

Srinivas Jokatte has been chosen for the Edneer Keshavananda Bharati Memorial Endowment Award. He is the editor of Gokulavaani monthly and a member of the Karnataka Working Journalists’ Association (Maharashtra chapter).

Dr Eshwara Alevur, editor of Akshaya monthly, will receive the K V R Thagore Memorial Endowment Award, sponsored by Smt Bhagya Thagore. The announcement was made by KDKJWA vice president Purushottama Perla.

The award ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 3 at Alliance Auditorium, Seethangoli in Kasargod district, under the chairmanship of K K Shetty Kuttikar, president of the reception committee.

Karnataka Legislative Council chairman Basavaraj Horatti, agriculture minister Cheluvarayaswamy, forest minister Eshwar Khandre, Karnataka Border Area Development Authority chairman Somanna Bevinamarada, and media advisor to the Karnataka CM K V Prabhakar will be the chief guests. President of the Karnataka Working Journalists' Association Shivananad Tagaduru will also be present, informed association general secretary Gangadhar K and secretary Stephen Crasta.

About the awardees:

Srinivas Jokatte

An acclaimed journalist, Jokatte is a recipient of numerous awards including the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Book Award, Vardhaman Udayonmukha Sahitya Award, Sahitya Setu Award, and Border Region Media Award. He has served as deputy editor and is the current editor of Gokulavaani. Since the 1980s, he has reported for prominent publications such as Lankesh Patrike, Sudra Srinivasa’s Sallaapa Weekly, Priyanka monthly, Karavali Ale, and Kannada Janataranga. Jokatte has published 44 works. His story Bangale Maneya Prabhu is part of the BCom curriculum at Mangalore University, and his story Golada Sutta Ulkegalu has been translated into Telugu.

Dr Eshwara Alevur

Editor of Akshaya, Dr Alevur is a renowned critic whose compilation Olavu Niluva has been well received. With a journalism career spanning nearly five decades, he is known for his reviews, profiles, and insightful reporting. He earned a PhD from Mumbai University for his thesis on the novels of writer Vishukumara. Dr Alevur has been honoured with awards including the Hridayavantharu Award and Mogaveera Patrike Award.

The award consists of a cash prize, citation, and memento.
