Mangaluru: Concerns rise over NH 169 road stability ahead of monsoon

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Apr 23: With the monsoon fast approaching, concerns have been raised about the durability of the newly constructed NH 169 road from Gurpur to Savanur Karkala. While the stretch near Gurpur bridge to Nooyi currently appears to be in good condition, doubts persist about how well it will withstand heavy rainfall.

A major concern is the absence of retaining walls on either side of the road. The entire structure rests solely on a mud foundation, which has already begun to erode due to pre-monsoon showers. If timely preventive measures are not taken, this erosion could lead to the road collapsing.

Though the surface appears well-constructed, the lack of proper reinforcement—particularly retaining walls—poses a significant risk. Soil is gradually washing away from the edges, leaving the newly laid road vulnerable to damage.

Authorities are urged to inspect the site at the earliest and implement precautionary measures to avoid a potential collapse during the upcoming monsoon season.
