Udupi: SMVITM observes World Earth Day with insightful talk on soil conservation

Udupi, Apr 24: Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, marked World Earth Day with an enlightening talk on soil conservation, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness. The event was organized by the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the Department of Basic Science.

The session featured Sabyath Shetty, a dedicated volunteer from the Isha Foundation, who delivered a thought-provoking presentation titled "Essence of Earth: Protecting and Preserving Soil." He shed light on the vital role soil plays in supporting life, from nurturing plant growth to storing carbon, filtering water, and serving as a habitat for countless organisms.

In his address, He emphasized the urgent need for soil conservation through practices like sustainable farming, afforestation, composting, and minimizing chemical use. He highlighted how soil preservation is not only fundamental to food security but also crucial in tackling climate change and maintaining ecological balance.

The event was enthusiastically received by students and faculty alike. Coordination efforts were led by Shashikala R, ISTE chapter coordinator, and Sachin Prabhu, NSS coordinator. Prerana, a second-year electronics and communication engineering student compered the programme.
