Bengaluru, Apr 24: Eager to turn the tide at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bengaluru all-rounder Romario Shepherd believes tonight could be the breakthrough RCB desperately needs. Having dropped all three of their home fixtures so far this IPL season, the Virat Kohli–led side sits fourth on 10 points thanks to strong away performances—but the home crowd has yet to witness a victory.

“This ground is new to me, but it feels special,” said Shepherd ahead of Thursday’s clash with Rajasthan Royals. “We’ve let our fans down at home, and I’m hopeful tonight is our night. We’ll look to bat more responsibly and take on the challenge RR presents.”

Shepherd, making his Chinnaswamy debut for the franchise, has impressed in limited opportunities. “I’ve done okay so far, but I want to contribute more—both with bat and ball. My plan is to pick up wickets while keeping the runs in check. I’m particularly keen on dismissing Hetmyer again—that was my maiden wicket!”

Opponents Rajasthan Royals arrive with their own woes, having lost four in a row. Leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, an RCB alumnus for three seasons, insists the Royals are focused on one match at a time. “The last couple of games didn’t go our way, but the cricket has been good. We need a strong start tonight,” he said. “Chinnaswamy is a compact ground, so hitting good areas in the middle overs will be crucial. RCB are a quality outfit, so we’ll stick to the basics and see where we stand after six more fixtures.”
