Udupi, Apr 27: “The three pillars of government must function as per the wishes of the constitution,” said Professor Kokkarne Surendranath Shetty, retired head of the department of Political Science, MGM.

Professor Kokkarne Surendranath Shetty, speaking at the special lecture and discussion programme on the Indian Judicial System organized by the Bharat Vikas Parishad in Kadiyali, Udupi, said, “The three pillars of the government, Legislative, Executive and Judiciary, must operate in accordance with the Constitution. There should be no question of superiority or inferiority among these pillars. The success of democracy depends on the responsible and efficient functioning of all three institutions.”

Professor Kokkarne Surendranath Shetty, explained that the aim of the Constitution is to foster a harmonious relationship between the Legislature, Executive and Judiciary, in a way that addresses the hopes and aspirations of the people. “The individuals holding responsible positions should refrain from making conflicting statements. Safeguarding the autonomy of the Judiciary is a collective responsibility of both the Legislature and the Executive, while the Judiciary’s foremost duty is to deliver justice with honesty and impartiality,” he added.

The session was presided over by Bharat Vikas Parishad president Krishnadas C P. secretary Subraya Shenoy welcomed the gathering, and senior member and coordinator Vasant Bhat coordinated the event.
