Rome, Apr 27: A series of images showing US President Donald Trump seemingly asleep during Pope Francis' funeral have gone viral, igniting widespread criticism on social media.
Trump, 78, attended the funeral at the Vatican in Rome on Saturday with First Lady Melania Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Seated in the front row, the couple became the focal point of online discussions as photos emerged showing Trump with his eyes closed, leading many to believe he was dozing off during the solemn event.

The controversy intensified when it was noted that Trump wore a blue suit instead of the expected black attire, which further fueled online mockery. Critics quickly took to social media, calling the incident an "embarrassment" and drawing comparisons with President Joe Biden. One user tweeted, “I don’t ever want to hear another word about 'Sleepy Joe' — not after this circus."
The images, alongside comments about Trump texting, laughing, and even taking phone calls, sparked ridicule. Some users sarcastically remarked, “Trump showed respect for the Pope by texting, sleeping, and not following the dress code. He represents MAGA so well!”
The incident highlighted the stark contrast between the gravity of the funeral and Trump's actions, with many expressing disappointment in his behavior. Despite the criticism, earlier in the day, Trump had posted images standing before the Pope's coffin, paying his respects, and had a one-on-one meeting with Zelenskyy, marking the first such meeting since their confrontation in February.
