Mumbai, Apr 29: In a power-packed announcement, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Tuesday unveiled eight icon players for the much-anticipated return of the T20 Mumbai League, with Indian cricket heavyweights Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane leading the charge.
After a six-year hiatus, the tournament's third edition is set to light up the iconic Wankhede Stadium from May 26 to June 8. The line-up of icon players also includes Sarfaraz Khan, Shardul Thakur, Prithvi Shaw, Shivam Dube, and Tushar Deshpande — all of whom have donned India colours, underscoring Mumbai’s unmatched cricketing pedigree.
“We are thrilled to bring back the T20 Mumbai League with such a stellar line-up. These icons not only reflect Mumbai's glorious cricketing legacy but will also mentor the next wave of stars,” said MCA President Ajinkya Naik.
Each of the eight franchises will have the opportunity to sign one icon player, blending international experience with domestic zeal. The MCA also confirmed that the auction date will be announced shortly.
The franchises taking part in this edition include North Mumbai Panthers, ARCS Andheri, Triumph Knights Mumbai North East, Namo Bandra Blasters, Eagle Thane Strikers, and Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs. They will be joined by two debutant teams — SoBo Mumbai Falcons and Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals.
With over 2,800 player registrations already, the buzz around the league is palpable. The T20 Mumbai League, known for launching future India stars, now returns with greater firepower, bigger ambitions, and a commitment to unearthing the city's next cricketing sensation.
