Mangaluru, Apr 29: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta met Israel’s Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, on Monday and discussed deepening technological cooperation in agriculture, aquaculture, education, and water management.

Capt Chowta highlighted the district’s strengths in export-oriented crops such as arecanut, cashew, coconut, and rubber, backed by a strong network of cooperative agricultural societies. Guided by the prime minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, he proposed integrating Israeli technology into Dakshina Kannada’s ecosystem—from agriculture to startups—to empower farmers and youth with cutting-edge innovation and drive sustainable growth.

He called for visits by Israeli agri-tech companies for on-ground engagement with farmers, introduction of advanced technologies like robotics, drones, and AI-based farm management, and adoption of Israel’s acclaimed water management strategies to improve irrigation and conservation practices.

He also proposed exploring technology cooperation in coffee cultivation as a promising, export-oriented cash crop suited to the region.

Ambassador Azar welcomed the proposal and expressed interest in areas aligned with Israel’s focus on sustainable, tech-led agriculture in India. Both sides agreed on the potential of this partnership to become a model for innovation-based rural development.

Capt Chowta assured full institutional support at the district and state levels to host Israeli delegations and build long-term collaboration. The initiative marks a step forward in strengthening Indo-Israel ties at the grassroots and empowering Indian farmers through global innovation.

This is why we say, we need educated Politicians, who have a vision and clarity on what we need for the progress of our city and society. Having educated citizens but without a civic responsibility is no use, hence it is pertinent to have leaders who know the need of the hour. Israel though a desert dominating terrain country has used it's technology to have drip irrigation to convert desert into yielding green pastures. But here we are with such abundant rains, water & everything available, yet we cry of water scarcity every year. Capt. Chowta you are a beacon of hope for us, who thinks positively and then ensure things fall in place. good luck and God Bless you always.
