Kolar, Apr 30: In a shocking incident driven by a reckless bet, a 21-year-old youth lost his life after consuming five full bottles of liquor without mixing water. The incident took place at Poojarahalli village in Mulbagal taluk of Kolar district.

The deceased has been identified as Karthik (21), who had been married just a year ago. He reportedly placed a bet with locals Venkatareddy, Subramani, and three others from the same village, claiming he could drink five bottles of liquor neat—without a drop of water—for a prize of Rs 10,000.

Venkatareddy is said to have challenged Karthik, declaring that if he completed the task, he would be awarded the money. Taking up the challenge with full confidence and ego, Karthik consumed all five bottles without any water. However, shortly after the alcohol entered his system, his health began to deteriorate rapidly.

Realizing the severity of the situation, Karthik reportedly pleaded with his friends to save his life and take him to the hospital. He was immediately rushed to Mulbagal hospital, but despite efforts to treat him, Karthik did not respond and tragically passed away.

Even though it is widely known that consuming undiluted liquor in such large quantities can be fatal, Karthik’s associates still encouraged the bet. Following his death, his family lodged a complaint against Venkatareddy, Subramani, and four others at Nangali police station. Police have arrested Venkatareddy and Subramani and are on the lookout for the remaining accused.

Karthik’s death is especially tragic given that he had recently become a father. His pregnant wife had been sent to her maternal home for delivery and gave birth to their child just eight days ago. He became a father before turning 21, but failed to realize the responsibilities that came with it. His addiction to alcohol and gambling ultimately cost him his life.

Now, his family is in deep distress, with his young wife left widowed and his infant child fatherless. The heart-wrenching situation has left the family without direction or support.
