New Delhi, May 1: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday extended warm greetings to the people of Gujarat on the state’s 65th Foundation Day, commending the state’s contribution in enhancing India’s global standing and inspiring the world through its historic legacy and progressive spirit.
Taking to social media platform X, President Murmu wrote, “On the foundation day of Gujarat state, I extend my heartiest greetings to all my countrymen, especially my Gujarati brothers and sisters living in India and abroad.”
Highlighting Gujarat’s illustrious heritage, she added, “This land of sons like Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, who gave the message of peace and non-violence to the world, and Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who united India, has always shown the way to humanity.”
“The people here have increased India's prestige across the world, on the strength of their talent, dedication and hard work. I am confident that Gujarat will set new standards of progress and will make a significant contribution in making India a world power,” the President stated.
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also extended his heartfelt greetings, saying, “Warm greetings on Gujarat Statehood Day. The land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Gujarat, continues to inspire through its legacy of leadership, resilience and innovation.”
The day, widely known as Gujarat Gaurav Din or Gujarat Sthapana Divas, marks the creation of the state on May 1, 1960, following the bifurcation of the erstwhile Bombay State on linguistic lines. The reorganisation, a response to long-standing demands for distinct Marathi and Gujarati-speaking states, also led to the simultaneous formation of Maharashtra.
Today, Gujarat stands as a symbol of industrial prowess, cultural richness, and entrepreneurial excellence, with its people playing a pivotal role in shaping India’s social and economic fabric.
