Chikkamagaluru, May 1: Sri Vidusekhara Bharathi Swamiji, the revered head of the Sringeri Sharada Math in Chikkamagaluru district, Karnataka, on Thursday announced a Rs 2 lac compensation for the families of the 26 victims who tragically lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir on April 22.
Condemning the heinous attack, the seer expressed deep sorrow for the loss and said, "Twenty-six families are grieving the loss of their loved ones. Hindus must stand by fellow Hindus. Therefore, on behalf of the Sringeri Sharada Peetha, we are offering Rs 2 lac to each family as a sacred offering (prasada)."

The seer also extended his blessings to the grieving families, praying that they soon find peace, happiness, and prosperity.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had earlier announced a Rs 10 lac compensation for the families of victims from Karnataka. The Sringeri Sharada Mutt's compensation will be distributed as a form of prasada, and the mutt's administrator will ensure that it reaches the victims' families across the country.
Sri Vidusekhara Bharathi Swamiji, who is the successor-designate to Jagadguru Sri Bharathi Theertha Mahaswamiji, the current pontiff of the Sringeri Sharada Peetham, reiterated the mutt's commitment to supporting the victims' families.
Earlier, the Karnataka government had condemned the Pahalgam terror attack during a special cabinet meeting held in Chamarajanagar on April 24. A resolution was passed demanding a thorough investigation into the lapses that led to the attack and called for the eradication of terrorism in the country.
The terrorist attack on the popular tourist spot in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, in Jammu and Kashmir resulted in the deaths of 26 people, sending shockwaves across the nation.
