Mangaluru/Udupi, May 2: Miscreants reportedly pelted stones at a private bus in the city on Friday morning. The incident took place near University College in Mangaluru while the bus was in motion.

A group of unidentified miscreants is said to have carried out the attack.

Following the stone pelting incident, private bus services in the city have been suspended as a precautionary measure.

Miscreants reportedly pelted stones at four buses that had arrived from Bengaluru during the early hours of the day. Following the incident, KSRTC suspended its services.

The stone pelting took place near Pumpwell, where window panes of four buses were damaged. No passengers were injured in the attack. “We have suspended bus services in view of the situation,” said Rajesh Shetty, divisional controller of KSRTC, Mangaluru division.

Most commercial establishments remained shut, and public movement in the city was sparse. Roads wore a deserted look with minimal pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Normal life in Udupi continued uninterrupted, with shops and city buses operating as usual. However, express bus services from Udupi to Mangaluru have been temporarily suspended following incidents of stone pelting reported in certain areas of Mangaluru.

The buses had operated from Udupi towards Mangaluru early in the morning, but as these buses were targeted and stones were pelted at the vehicles, the service has now been suspended by the private bus operators. Bus services between Karkala and Mangaluru were also suspended.

The suspension has been implemented as a precautionary measure, citing safety concerns for both passengers and transport staff. Despite the developments in Mangaluru, Udupi remains calm and unaffected, with no disruptions reported so far.

Udupi operates normally and business activities continue as normal across the district.
