Chandigarh, May 2: In an all-party meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday, all political parties unanimously supported the state's refusal to share additional water with Haryana, stressing that Punjab has no surplus water. The meeting, attended by leaders from AAP, BJP, Congress, and Shiromani Akali Dal, focused on safeguarding Punjab’s water rights.

CM Mann criticized the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) for releasing an extra 4,500 cusecs of water to Haryana, warning of agitation if Punjab's rights were ignored. He reiterated that Haryana had already surpassed its allocated share, receiving 4,700 cusecs, and that the state would not compromise on its water resources.

The government plans to convene a special Punjab Assembly session on May 5 to discuss the issue. BJP president Sunil Jakhar also reaffirmed that Punjab has no surplus water to share, emphasizing the importance of protecting the state’s interests.

Amid rising tensions, the Punjab government has increased security at the Nangal Dam and blocked the release of water to Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan. The situation remains sensitive, with both government and opposition parties united in defending Punjab’s water rights.
