Manchester, May 3: Pep Guardiola has confirmed he will take a break from football once his current spell with Manchester City ends in 2027, leaving open the question of whether he will return to management afterward.

Speaking to ESPN Brasil ahead of City’s Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Guardiola said, “After my contract with City, I'm going to stop. I am sure. I don't know if I'm going to retire, but I'm going to take a break.”

The 53-year-old Spaniard extended his contract with the Premier League giants in November, committing to the club until June 2027. That would mark over a decade-long tenure with City, the longest of his managerial career.

Reflecting on his legacy, Guardiola said he doesn’t dwell on how he will be remembered:

“How I want to be remembered, I don't know. I want people to remember me however they want... Fans of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City have had fun watching my teams play.”

“In the end, what matters is that we enjoyed our time and took on the challenges,” he added. “We coaches want to win, but we should not obsess about legacy. When we're gone, people move on.”

Under Guardiola, Manchester City have become a dominant force, claiming 18 major trophies in eight seasons — including six Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and the UEFA Champions League as part of the club’s historic Treble in the 2022/23 season.

Looking ahead, Guardiola will be eyeing further silverware when City face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final on May 17.
