Kota, May 4: A NEET-UG aspirant allegedly died by suicide in Kota just hours before the national medical entrance exam, police confirmed on Saturday evening.

The girl, under 18, hailed from Sheopur, Madhya Pradesh, and had been living with her parents in the Parshavnath area of Kota for several years while attending coaching classes for the NEET-UG examination.

According to Kunhadi police station circle inspector Arvind Bhardwaj, she was found hanging from an iron grill in her room using a scarf around 9 p.m. on Saturday. Her parents were reportedly at home when the incident occurred. No suicide note was recovered, and the body has been sent for post-mortem.

The tragic death comes as the NEET-UG exam is being conducted across India on Sunday and underscores the mounting pressure on students preparing for competitive exams. This marks the 14th reported suicide by a coaching student in Kota in 2025, a statistic that continues to fuel concerns over student mental health in India’s coaching capital.

Authorities have urged coaching centres and families to remain vigilant and provide emotional support to students dealing with academic stress.
