Indore, May 5: In a significant crackdown on illegal online betting, the Crime Branch of Indore Police arrested 27-year-old Abhay Sharma for running a betting racket during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). The arrest followed a raid at his flat in a residential colony in Sector E, where police recovered several mobile phones and three laptops.

According to officials, Sharma confessed that he had been operating the illegal betting operation from his rented flat for several years. The betting was conducted using personal login credentials, with the accused managing the system through smartphones and laptops. An FIR has been lodged against Sharma under the Gambling Act and relevant sections of the IT Act.

The Crime Branch has raised concerns that more individuals may be involved in the racket and is conducting further searches. The Technical Department is examining the recovered electronic devices to gather more evidence.

This is the second online betting racket busted in Indore in the past two weeks. On April 27, a man was arrested in connection with online betting during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final match between India and New Zealand.
