Hyderabad, May 5: Pat Cummins led from the front with a fiery bowling display as Sunrisers Hyderabad dismantled Delhi Capitals for a mere 133/7 in Match 56 of IPL 2025 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Cummins was on the mark right from the start, exploiting the pitch's extra bounce and variable pace. His relentless line and length were too much for Delhi, and in his third over, he sent Abishek Porel back with a delivery that ballooned off an attempted flick for a simple catch to Ishan Kishan. Cummins wasn’t done there – though not claiming a wicket, his sharp fielding helped, as he took a stunning one-handed catch off a slower ball to dismiss Axar Patel.
Delhi’s woes deepened when Jaydev Unadkat found Rahul Tewatia's edge, marking the first time in IPL history that a top four had been dismissed by the wicketkeeper. By the eighth over, Delhi was reeling at 29/5.
Tristan Stubbs and debutant Vipraj Nigam tried to rebuild with a 33-run partnership, but their efforts were punctuated by nervous moments, including a comical run-out. Despite their struggles, Ashutosh Sharma’s counter-attacking 41 off 28 balls gave Delhi’s total some respectability, but they still finished with a modest 133/7 in 20 overs.
Cummins’ superb bowling and leadership in the field gave SRH a straightforward chase ahead, with the pitch offering plenty of assistance for the pacers.
Brief scores:
Delhi Capitals 133/7 in 20 overs (Ashutosh Sharma 41, Tristan Stubbs 41; Pat Cummins 3-19, Jaydev Unadkat 1-13) vs Sunrisers Hyderabad.
