Mangaluru, May 7: People who spread lies and provocative content on social media should reflect on how it affects the honour of their parents, said KPCC general secretary Padmaraj.
Addressing a press meet at the Press Club here on Wednesday, May Padmaraj said, “Some of the posts made by individuals on social media are shameful for a civilised society. The police will take legal action against such behaviour. However, those involved in such acts must consider the impact on their parents and act in a way that does not bring dishonour to them.”
“While efforts are underway to prepare a master plan for the development of Dakshina Kannada district in consultation with coastal MLAs, attempts are being made to tarnish the district’s image in the past 10 to 12 days. The group murder of innocent Ashraf in Bajpe is disgraceful to society. Initially, there was delay and misdirection in the investigation by the police, but under the direction of the home minister and district in-charge minister, the investigation was expedited, leading to the arrest of 21 persons and notices issued to 17 others. However, while this probe was progressing, Suhas was murdered. The killing of Suhas Shetty is condemnable under any circumstance. It is neither justifiable nor worthy of imitation. All those involved must be punished accordingly,” he said.
He added, “However, we must not forget that a rowdy sheet was already opened against him—by whom and during whose tenure must also be remembered. Those now calling him a Hindu activist only after his death must answer whether they had worked to reform him earlier when he was involved in anti-social activities.”
Padmaraj further criticised attempts to label the murdered Suhas as a Hindu activist, which, he said, incited further violence against others. “What exactly have BJP leaders and their state president done by coming here? They must clarify what they mean by ‘Hindu activist’. I too am a Hindu, but my religion has never taught me to hate another. It is our duty to uplift the weak in our religion. No religion preaches hatred. All those involved in anti-social activity must be treated as terrorists. No act of hate should be carried out on religious grounds,” he asserted.
Leaders Ibrahim Kodijal, Shashidhar Hegde, Naveen D’Souza, Samsuddin, Durgaprasad, Shabbir, and Suhan Alva were present at the press meet.
