BMRCL unveils next-gen QR ticketing system at Baiyappanahalli metro station in B'luru

Bengaluru, May 9: In a move aimed at enhancing commuter convenience and reducing waiting time, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has rolled out self-service QR ticket vending machines at Baiyappanahalli Metro Station.

As many as 10 state-of-the-art ticket vending machines have been installed at the station. These machines are designed to dispense QR-based tickets within 30 seconds, significantly easing passenger flow during peak hours.

BMRCL stated that the introduction of these machines is a part of its larger commitment to leveraging technology for a smoother and more efficient metro travel experience. With long queues at ticket counters being a regular sight at major metro stations, this initiative is expected to provide much-needed relief to daily commuters.

Speaking to the media, BMRCL officials said, “We are integrating digital innovations to make metro travel smarter. The self-service machines are a step towards a contactless, modern ticketing system that caters to today’s fast-paced urban lifestyle.”

Fast, easy, and environment-friendly

The new machines allow commuters to book their tickets in just 3-4 simple steps. Passengers can select their destination using a map or dropdown menu, input the number of travellers, and make payments using any UPI-based mobile application.

Once the payment is successful, a paper QR ticket is generated instantly.

These QR tickets can be scanned at entry and exit gates across metro stations. Post travel, BMRCL has requested passengers to responsibly dispose of the printed tickets in dedicated bins, in line with its eco-friendly and cleanliness initiatives.

“These smart ticketing kiosks are an upgrade from traditional single-journey tokens, offering a faster, contactless option that meets the needs of modern commuters. This is a key step towards enhancing the city’s public transport efficiency,” BMRCL added.

The corporation reaffirmed its dedication to improving the travel experience and hinted at further technological upgrades across more metro stations in the near future.
