New Delhi, May 9: The directorate of civil defence on Friday conducted a test of air raid sirens at the Public Works Department (PWD) headquarters in ITO, prompting a citywide security alert and increased vigilance.

The siren test, which began at 3 pm, lasted for around 15 to 20 minutes. Officials urged the public to stay calm and not panic, highlighting that information about the exercise had been widely shared through social and electronic media platforms to ensure awareness.

Simultaneously, Delhi Police ramped up security across the capital. Additional personnel were stationed at key landmarks and vulnerable spots, while bomb disposal squads and canine units carried out thorough checks in markets and crowded areas.

Coordination meetings were held with market associations and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), with police urging local stakeholders to reinforce security and ensure CCTV systems are operational.

Authorities are also making regular public announcements in densely populated zones, advising citizens to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious activity. Meanwhile, social media is under close watch to curb misinformation and prevent panic.
