Mangaluru, May 10: In a significant move aimed at safeguarding public safety and maintaining law and order, the commissioner of police and additional district magistrate of Mangaluru City, Anupam Agrawal, IPS, has issued a complete ban on the flying of drones and drone-based aerial filming within city limits for a period of four days.
The order, issued on Friday, May 10, prohibits all drone activity across the entire jurisdiction of the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate from 4 pm on May 10 until 4 pm on May 14.
The restriction comes under Rule 24 of the Drone Rules, 2021, and is aimed at preventing any incidents that may pose a threat to public peace and security, especially in light of the current circumstances.
“Considering the prevailing situation and the interest of public safety, it is essential to prohibit the flying of drones within city limits,” the order stated. “All forms of drone flying and drone-based filming shall remain completely restricted during the notified period,” it added.
All Station House Officers (SHOs) under the Commissionerate have been directed to take appropriate measures to enforce the ban strictly and ensure compliance within their respective jurisdictions.
The commissioner’s office has circulated the order to senior district and police officials, requesting immediate action. These include the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, deputy commissioners of police (law & order and crime & traffic), assistant commissioners of police from all sub-divisions, and all police inspectors across the city.
Additionally, the department of Information and Public Relations has been requested to publicise the order through various media channels, while All India Radio, Mangaluru has been asked to broadcast the announcement to ensure wide reach. Local tahsildars of Mangaluru, Mulki, and Ullal taluks have also been notified, along with the city’s special branch and Police Control Room.
The flying of drones during this period will be treated as a violation of the prohibition order and may attract legal action under applicable rules, officials confirmed.
This order has been passed by Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal and is now in immediate effect.
