New Delhi, May 11: A day after the Centre announced a ceasefire pact with Pakistan, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss Operation Sindoor and the ceasefire deal. Gandhi emphasized that US President Donald Trump first announced the ceasefire, underlining its significance.

In his letter, Gandhi said, "It is crucial for the people and their representatives to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and today's ceasefire, first announced by US President Trump. I trust you will consider this demand seriously and swiftly."

Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress chief and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, also joined the call for a special session, highlighting the unanimous request of the Opposition parties.
Kharge recalled their previous request on April 28 to convene Parliament following the Pahalgam terror attack.

Amidst growing tensions between India and Pakistan, US President Trump announced the ceasefire after long negotiations, which was later confirmed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the cessation of hostilities starting from May 10, with further talks scheduled for May 12.

While US involvement has been acknowledged in the ceasefire process, the Indian leadership has not yet commented on the role played by Washington, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi remaining silent on the development.
