Udupi, May 14: Fishermen have been advised to remain vigilant at sea and to engage in fishing activities in groups of two to three boats, especially from the perspective of safety and security.
Joint Director of the fisheries department, Vivek R, has directed fishermen to keep a close watch on the movements of any suspicious boats and unknown individuals. In case of any doubts or sightings, they are instructed to immediately inform the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Coastal Security Police, or other relevant security agencies.

Fishermen must also report if people are seen on sandbanks or mid-sea islands. The department has emphasized the use of installed transponders and the Nabhamitra application to relay such information.
Fishermen venturing out at night or while anchoring must ensure that their navigational lights are switched on.
In case of inspection by coastal security forces, complete cooperation is expected from all fishermen. They are also advised to carry QR-coded Aadhaar cards, registration certificates, fishing licenses, and other essential documents at all times.
The department has strongly recommended that fishermen avoid venturing out to sea during any suspicious or uncertain situations.
