New Delhi, May 14: In a major digital transformation, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) will introduce UPI-based claim processing, enabling members to withdraw their provident fund instantly.
Speaking to media, labour and employment secretary Sumita Dawra confirmed that the new feature is expected to roll out by May-end or June. “We are in the final stages of testing and will launch the UPI frontend for EPFO claims soon. Members will be able to access their EPF accounts directly through the UPI interface and make auto-claims. If eligible, the approval process will be instant, ensuring quick credit to their accounts,” she stated.

Under this system, members can withdraw up to Rs 1 lac instantly through an automated process, selecting their preferred bank account for transfers. Currently, claim settlements take 2–3 days, but with UPI integration, withdrawals are expected to be completed within minutes.
The EPFO has also expanded the scope of fund usage, allowing withdrawals for housing, education, and marriage in addition to existing provisions for medical emergencies. To facilitate this shift, over 120 databases have been integrated, and 95% of claims are now automated, reducing paperwork and delays.
Officials believe the initiative will revolutionize the provident fund system, similar to how UPI transformed digital payments in India.
