Vasco, May 15: A 47-year-old railway worker, Anand Naik from Guirim, Mapusa, tragically succumbed to his injuries at Goa Medical College (GMC) in Bambolim after a train accident inside the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) premises.
According to police, the incident occurred on April 29 around 3:30 p.m. while Naik was on duty at the RND Yard near MPA Gate No. 9. A preliminary investigation indicates that Naik accidentally came in contact with a moving train on Track No. 4, resulting in severe injuries to his right arm.
Naik was initially rushed to the Sub District Hospital in Chicalim, but due to the severity of his condition, he was shifted to GMC, Bambolim. Despite receiving medical and surgical treatment, Naik passed away during treatment.

Following a message from the GMC casualty ward, Mormugao police conducted an inquest panchanama at the hospital. A postmortem was performed by a police surgeon, who confirmed the cause of death as:
“Septicemia and shock in a person undergoing medical and surgical treatment due to extensive soft tissue injury to right arm consequent to blunt force impact by surface and/or object(s).”
The body was later handed over to Naik’s family for the final rites.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The inquiry is being led by PSI Vaishnavi Desai, under the supervision of PI Sherif Jacques and guidance of DySP Gurudas Kadam.
