Puttur: Clash Erupts at Hindu Samajotsava - Police Resort to Lathi Charge

Puttur, Jan 22: The Hindu Samajotsava organised at Chatrapati Shivaji maidan, Uppinangady near here on Sunday January 22 took an ugly turn when a group protested against the programme, alleging that provocative speeches had been made at the Samajotsava.

When the participants of the Samajotsava were returning after the programme, a group is said to have intersected them and protested against the speakers. They resorted to stone pelting, and the police had to use lathi charge to bring the situation under control.

The incident occured near Uppinangady bus stand.

Subramanya police station SI called upon the mob to maintain peace and things almost retuned to normalcy, but soon, another round of heated arguments and stone pelting followed by lathi charge occured.

Groups belonging to two different communities assembled in their respective religious centres.

The police were able to bring the situation under control. Superintendent of police Abhishek Goyal visited the spot. Around 500 personnel of the reserved police force have been deployed, and more will be brought in.

    Allow me to reply you on behalf of Rohit Martis. What is the problem if social work takes place in Rural Areas ? Don't you know that migration from rural areas to metros is the reason for creation of slums ?

    The government invites people to take up social work so that the poor are helped through various means and rural areas are developed. The service is not reserved for Christians - every citizen has an obligation to work for the development of the nation. The government has a condition that the social work be done with no bias toward any caste/religion. If any such discrimination is proved, the licence of the organization gets cancelled.

    I hope I made it clear why its important to develop rural areas in order stop establishing shanties in cities which becomes a problem to rehabilitate the occupants.

    For every one over here i will say one thing. People who do samajaseva is not god and who wont do is devil. These are peoples personal intrests and dont add religion tag into it, which complicates the good work. We always find a groupd in particular religion attributes that they are alone doing good work. My question to all the christians commented over here, Why are you people not questioning churches and preists for hatred against other communities. Dont say that they are not spreading it. Where are you people when certain groups of your community distributed pomplets and other books which says there are no god other than jesus some time back in karkala. I want to see the same religious spirit which i used to enjoy my childhood where all religious festivals are just festivals with out religion tag and every religion used to enjoy. People say what hinduthva groups are doing is wrong and i even accept to it, but i even add to it saying it is an effort to save our own community and not to hurt any one else. I have seen people not even sad for neighbours death but doing mass prayers for a person of same community and well known from neighbouring state.I dont feel this as a symapathy rather than blind belief of religion now a days. Even the religion leaders who have to bring peace are involved in some or the other activities which spread hatred among innocent people.
